16 community groups receive a share of first round funding

Published: 01/07/2010

Community groups from across East Lindsey have benefited from the first round of 2010/11 Community Grants from East Lindsey District Council.

The Council has awarded 16 individual groups a total of £69,000 in support of a range of local initiatives that will improve the quality of life across the District and help organisations to achieve their aspirations.

Portfolio Holder for Rural Services and Partnerships, Councillor Edward Mossop, explained: “The Community Grant system allows us to support some of the smaller groups in our community who have exciting projects they want to develop to benefit local people. This time round we’ve been pleased to support programmes including maintenance and surveys at Hubbards Hills in Louth and the resurfacing of tennis courts in Hundleby near Spilsby.”

The Council is now gearing up for Round 2 of funding bids, which is open for applications until August 26, 2010. A number of workshop events have been organised District-wide to help those organisations considering submitting an application to better understand the process.

Councillor Mossop, continued: “The workshop dates provide an important opportunity to get a real insight into the Community Grant application process and explain the areas you need to cover if you want your application to be strong. I would encourage any organisation that is considering an application to go along to one of the dates. It really will help.”

The workshop events take place as follows:

  • Sibsey - Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at Sibsey Village Hall between 7pm and 8.30pm.
  • Louth – Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at the Meridian Leisure Centre between 12.30 and 2pm.
  • Marshchapel – Thursday, July 15, 2010 at Marshchapel Village Hall (Committee Room at the rear) between 7pm and 8.30pm.
  • Mablethorpe – Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at Mablethorpe Community Access Point, Stanley Avenue between 7pm and 8.30pm.
  • Wragby – Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at Wragby Resource Centre between 7pm and 8.30pm.
  • Skegness – Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at Skegness Embassy Centre Arts Room between 12.30pm and 2pm.
