Car-sharers in Lincolnshire save over £100,000 and 600,000 miles

Car-sharers in Lincolnshire are reaping the rewards when it comes to their wallets as new statistics reveal that car-sharers in the county have saved £135,960 and reduced journeys on the county’s roads by 613,942 miles over the past twelve months; an average of nearly £250 and 1,100 miles per registered car-sharer.

And now Lincolnshire County Council is challenging more people in the county to car-share as part of National Liftshare Week, Monday 4 – Friday 8 October, and save themselves some money in the process.

At present, there are nearly 600 registered members on the council’s car-sharing website (see article links below for link to site), but the authority wants to encourage more individuals across the county to try car-sharing over the next week and notice the difference in their wallets.

Even car-sharing just one or two days a week will make a difference to people’s finances, and the Lincshare website allows users to calculate exactly how much they’ll save either over the course of a year or a single journey quickly and easily. The site also allows users to search for and establish car-shares with other people.

Sarah Brooke, Senior Accessibility Project Officer, said:

"Over 500 people are currently registered on the Lincshare website, and by car-sharing on a regular basis many of them have made substantial savings on fuel and parking costs.

Hopefully many more people will take inspiration from National Liftshare Week and save themselves hundreds of pounds as well."

National Liftshare Week aims to encourage and enable more people to discover both the environmental and financial benefits of car-sharing.
