Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue’s community fire safety officers are giving static caravan owners on parts of the East Coast the chance to have a free fire safety check.
Home fire safety checks are already available to residents in the county, but the team are particularly targeting static homes and holiday parks in Skegness, Winthorpe and Chapel St Leonards, this summer.
Gary Millson, Skegness Station Manager for Community Fire Safety, said:
“Although a lot of mobile homes on the East Coast are lived-in predominantly in the summer time, we are also aware that some people live in them for 10 months of the year. Every year there are new occupiers and new holidaymakers who we are hoping to target with fire safety advice.
“We recommend that smoke alarms should be fitted anywhere that has sleeping accommodation, to give the earliest possible warning in case of a fire. You are just as likely to have a fire in a caravan as you are in your home, therefore you should make sure you have a pre-determined escape route and plan as you would in your house. Care should also be taken with heating and lighting, as well as when cooking.”
The campaign will form part of an ongoing push to ensure the safety of caravanners on the East Coast and the Community Fire Safety Team are also keen to work with holiday park owners all along the East Coast on fire safety initiatives.
Caravan owners can apply for a free caravan fire safety check by calling Skegness Fire Station 01754 898980. Caravan site owners wanting to get involved with the campaign can contact Neil Bunch, Station Manager for Skegness or Gary Millson, Community Safety Manager on 01754 898980
