Following the success of the new Central Lincolnshire Joint Planning Unit, three Lincolnshire councils are now looking at working more closely together to deliver some services.
The City of Lincoln Council, North Kesteven District Council and West Lindsey District Council have teamed up to look at how they can offer revenues and benefits services that are more efficient and provide better service for customers. The revenues services include the collection of Council Tax and Business Rates. Benefits services include applications (such as Council Tax and Housing Benefit), benefit fraud and benefits advice.
Teams from across the three councils will now begin to look at that the systems, structures and processes that are already in place to deliver these services, to see if they can be reconfigured into a more efficient service. For example, by sharing IT systems to process claims, all three councils could save money and help residents to access these services at any of the three councils irrespective of where they live.
The joint review teams will be working hard over the next few months, with the aim of rolling out new pilot schemes to provide revenues and benefits services in the New Year. If the pilot schemes are successful, the new look services could be fully operational early next summer. However, this work is still in its early stages and any decisions about collaborative working will be subject to each individual council’s approval.
In addition to the work underway with the revenues and benefits services, the three councils are in early discussions to review how the Economic Development and Housing Strategy services can be delivered in a way that complements the strategic work of the joint planning unit.
