Having lived through the horror of watching Matthew Anderson die at the weekend, his partner, mum, dad and brother can now enjoy the hope and comfort the birth of his little boy has brought.
Kirsty Barden (26) gave birth to Matthew John Anderson at 10.04am yesterday.
Kirsty was in the car with Mr Anderson and their little girl, Kelsie (six) as it travelled along Heath Lane, Dunston Heath, at around 1pm on Saturday.
Mr Anderson’s mother and father, Joan and John were in the car behind and his brother Neil (29), his partner Joanne McPhee (32) and their son, Finlay (one), were a couple of cars back.
When Mr Anderson’s Volvo collided with another car the whole family’s world was torn apart in front of them.
His Brother, Neil, said: “I ran and put my arms around his neck to support it, I knew it was broken, but he was just staring straight ahead, he’d gone. I kissed and hugged him.”
Mr Anderson’s father, John, from Messingham, said: “The shock of seeing him die was just too much for all of us. To go to him and know he wasn’t there any more was unbearable.”
The whole family now wants to pay tribute to, “a loving son, a fantastic father and a man they were all proud to know.”
Matthew grew up in Messingham and went the infant and primary schools in the village, before attending Huntcliffe School in Kirton Lindsey and Frederick Gough School in Scunthorpe.
He left at the age of 16 and studied motor mechanics at North Lincs College for a short time, before starting a job as a roofer for Barry Collen Roofing.
His dad, John, said: “Ever since he was a boy he’s loved motorbikes. He had his first scooter when he was 13. It was broken and he mended it himself, he just had a natural gift with that kind of thing – it’s stayed with him all of his life. His biggest ambition was to go to the Isle of Man to take part in the TT race.
“In recent year’s he’s loved off-road driving in 4x4s at Kirton Quarry. They used to drive around for hours and then camp over at night.”
Matthew’s Mum said he would be missed so much by so many people.
She said: “He was loved a lot of people here in Messingham and in Dunston and Metheringham.
“He was such a genuine man who would help anyone. He was a great father and he was looking forward so much to the birth of his son”
Neil Anderson said: “He had such a brilliant sense of humour. He was a man of few words, be he made them count. He was a great brother and a great friend – I’ll miss him so much.”
His dad, John, said: “He was the kind of man who could look in the mirror and never be ashamed of what he saw – we are all proud to have known him.”
The family would like to thank staff at Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance, Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue, East Midlands Ambulance Service and Lincolnshire Police for their efforts on the day and continued support.
Editor's Note:
Lincolnshire Guide don't normally cover stories about road accidents and similar events. However, on this occasion we have decided to make an exception due to the nature of the story. We would like to offer family and friends our condolences on their tragic loss, and our congratulations on the birth of baby Matthew.
