Festive fun at the Lincoln Christmas Market

Children and adults alike will be thoroughly entertained at this year’s Lincoln Christmas Market, with a whole host of on street performances and special festive treats.

A traditional festive opening

The Dean of Lincoln Cathedral will be joined by the Mayor of Lincoln on the west front steps of the cathedral at 6:15pm on Thursday 2nd December to formally open the market.

Bringing Dickens to the streets of Lincoln

Event organisers at the City of Lincoln Council have enlisted locally based Chapterhouse Theatre Company to provide much of the on-street entertainment, with a selection of heart-warming Christmas tales, including the Dickens classic, A Christmas Carol.  Performances will be brimming with traditional song, beautiful period costume and a specially scripted performance of The Twelve Days of Christmas will be a must-see.  And visitors should watch out for the characters handing out holly and mistletoe as they walk around the market.

Richard Main, Producer at Chapterhouse, said: "We are very excited to be a part of the Lincoln Christmas Market and to be able to entertain the wonderful visitors to the city as well as everyone from Lincoln who comes along to the eventI actually live in the Bail area and I can honestly say that I look forward to the market every year. To be able to perform is an absolute treat and we have come up with some very Christmassy treats for the occasion."

Father Christmas

Back by popular demand, Father Christmas returns to the market this year to hear children’s wishes by the fireside at Judge’s Lodgings on Castle Square.  With help from his elves, Father Christmas will dish out gifts to children.

Winter Wonderland

Children will be able to soak up the festive atmosphere at their dedicated Winter Wonderland at the Lawn.  The ever-popular Reindeer Ride and Snow Sleighs will be sure to delight the under 12s.

The Cadbury Wishes Workshop

The Cadbury Wishes Workshop at St Paul in the Bail will give market goers the chance to enter a competition to create their dream chocolate bar.  Visitors to the magical workshop can also buy the brand new product Cadbury Wishes, with 10 per cent of all profits going to Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Traditional funfair

For visitors of all ages, the traditional funfair on Westgate is the place to be.  The stunning Victorian carousel will fill the air with music and light, while thrill seekers will be rewarded with stunning views across Lincoln and beyond from the top of the big wheel.

Christmas Market fringe events

For the fourth year running, the beautiful ruins of the Bishops’ Palace will play host to the Medieval Christmas Market.  From long bows to hand struck coins, English pewter to Venetian glass, hand thrown pottery, ironwork and beautifully carved leatherwork, truly unique gifts will be found at the Medieval Christmas Market.

On the other side of the Christmas Market, the Museum of Lincolnshire Life on Burton Road presents a Victorian Christmas.  With free entry between 10am and 4pm on each day of the market, visitors will be able to join a host of Victorian characters as they prepare for the festive season.
