Don’t miss this rare opportunity to contribute to the living history of Lincolnshire. To celebrate the new sail which will soon to be fitted to Ellis’ Mill, the volunteer millers will be holding an open morning, hoping to spark the interest of locals in joining their group.
Ellis’ Mill has been a familiar sight on the Lincoln skyline for more than 200 years supplying stone-ground flour to the residents of Lincoln. For the past ten months the mill has been operating on two sails whilst a new sail was made by specialist millwrights. The volunteers are hoping that by the time the new sail is fitted they will have a few extra hands to help bring this Lincoln landmark to life for visitors.
Barry Brooke, Chairman of Ellis’ Mill Volunteers’ Group said:
“To be able to continue the milling tradition and share its history is a fantastic opportunity. We are a friendly group, well supported by the staff at the Museum of Lincolnshire Life, and would love to hear from anyone who would like to learn how to run a windmill or to help people get the most from their visit.”
The open morning will be held at Ellis’ Mill on Mill Road, Lincoln on Saturday 6 March at 10am. If you would be interested in helping to look after this famous Lincolnshire landmark, please contact The Museum of Lincolnshire Life on 01522 528448 or come along to the open morning for a taste of volunteer work at the mill.
