Free car parking will be available in the run-up to Christmas

Shoppers in Sleaford can enjoy free parking in the run-up to Christmas as part of a joint initiative by North Kesteven District Council and the Sleaford Business Improvement District.

During the first three Fridays of December (4, 11and 18), people can park in Money's Yard and Jermyn Street car parks for free between the hours of 9am and 12 noon - simply by taking a voucher from one of the volunteers who will be stood at the parking meters. These will be given after a car parking ticket has been purchased as normal.

On the way back from their shopping, people then need to call in to the Tourist Information Centre in Money's Yard and present their voucher. A member of staff will then redeem the full amount of the car parking ticket. Vouchers must be presented by 3pm on the same day as purchase in order for them to be redeemed.

The vouchers also display a special discount of 50p off the Heart of Lincolnshire 2010 calendar that is now on sale in the Tourist Information Centre.

There are also other car parks in Sleaford that offer free parking. East Banks car park offers three hours free parking and Station Road car park offers two hours free parking all year round. Also, Eastgate and Lafford Terrace car parks are free every Saturday and all car parks are free every Sunday.

Leader of North Kesteven District Council, Councillor Mrs Marion Brighton, OBE, said: "This free Christmas parking initiative has been organised in partnership with the Sleaford BID. Both organisations are keen to encourage people to shop locally, and are pleased that by working together are able to provide a financial incentive to everyone to make their Christmas purchases in Sleaford."
