Funding sought to deliver community vision for Inn on the Park

Skegness people have told East Lindsey District Council what they would like to see the former Inn on the Park in Tower Gardens used for in the future.

A mixed use, incorporating a traditional tea room, seaside museum and gallery space for local artists and travelling exhibitions is the preferred choice of those people who responded to a recent consultation exercise.

East Lindsey District Council has now submitted a funding bid to the national Sea Change Programme in an attempt to take the £1m project forward.  The Council is one of over 50 competing for its share of a pot of money made available to drive cultural and creative regeneration in historic seaside resorts The Inn on the Park has remained unused since the previous tenant left it in a state of disrepair in 2007.

If the funding bid isn’t successful the Council will look to alternative funders to see what other opportunities there are to attract the money required.

The District Council’s Portfolio Holder for Coastal Regeneration, Councillor Dick Edginton, said: “If we can secure the funding this will be an exciting project for Skegness.  We have put forward a strong funding bid but it’ll be some time before we know the outcome.  It is important that local people help to shape the future of their local area and I’m pleased so many people have told us what they would like to see this important building used for.”
