The first phase of regeneration plans for Grantham’s Market Place is due to get underway on 26 July 2010.
The enhancements include improving the existing junction by upgrading the traffic signals, providing a new pedestrian crossing, resurfacing the road and creating more pavement space. To improve the traffic flow, right-hand turns into Vine Street will no longer be allowed. The work will be carried out by Lincolnshire County Council’s Highway Alliance and Mark Heaton, Area Highways Manager, said:
“This will form the first phase of the Grantham Market Place improvements, which is a £1.5 million investment as part of the Grantham Growth Point Project. The regeneration of this area is a key focus for revitalising the town centre by creating a more pedestrian-friendly and attractive environment.
“Disruption will be kept to a minimum through night time road closures, with access maintained during the day. We advise drivers to plan their routes and allow some extra time for their journeys during this period.”
The work will take about nine weeks. The project is a partnership between Lincolnshire County Council and South Kesteven District Council.
