Her Royal Highness, The Princess Royal, will officially open the Meridian Leisure Centre in Louth on July 21, 2010.
The announcement comes just days after the state-of-the-art £12m Centre, boasting some of the best leisure facilities in the East Midlands, celebrated its three month anniversary and welcomed its 100,000th visitor, Jessica Garcia – Fussey, aged 9 from Grainthorpe.
On a tour of the Leisure Centre, HRH Princess Anne will meet representatives from local sports clubs and regular users before unveiling a plaque to declare the Meridian Leisure Centre officially open.
Portfolio Holder for Leisure at the District Council, Councillor Adam Grist, who drove the Meridian Leisure Centre project forward as part of the Council’s health improvement programme, explained: "I am delighted that Her Royal Highness, Princess Anne, will have the opportunity to tour the new Leisure Centre and meet some of its users. Since opening the Meridian Leisure Centre has been a huge success, with visitor numbers and membership sales so far exceeding expectations. We must continue to build on this and ensure everyone in East Lindsey has the opportunity to improve their health as a result of the Meridian Leisure Centre and the District Council’s other leisure centres."
The Meridian Leisure Centre has an 80 station fitness suite, with the latest FitLinxx technology to help improve the users workout; an eight lane, 25m swimming pool, with floating floor, sauna and steam rooms; dance studios, multi purpose rooms, IT suite, crèche and day nursery, cafe and large sports hall.
"The Meridian Leisure Centre is a milestone in our leisure improvement programme," said Councillor Grist. "In addition to this project we’ve taken forward exciting and ambitious projects elsewhere in East Lindsey, including a new sports pavilion on London Road Sports Ground in Louth, new sports pavilion on Wainfleet Road playing field in Skegness, plus the transformation of a former refuse site in Horncastle into a thriving community park. By providing some of the best facilities we believe more people will improve their lives because they will be encouraged to take part in physical activity. There has never been a better time to get fit and active in East Lindsey."
