Hollywood star Chris Rankin, who plays Percy Weasley in the newly released Harry Potter film, will join Lincoln’s own Colin McFarlane, best known for his roles in Batman: The Dark Knight and the BBC’s Reginald Perrin, to light up Lincoln’s Christmas this Thursday evening (18th November).
The City of Lincoln Council has teamed up with Lincoln Business Improvement Group (BIG), St. Mark’s Shopping Centre, Lincs FM and the Lincoln Drill Hall to ensure that Lincoln’s Christmas shopping season gets off to a spectacular start.
Surrounded by stars from the Lincoln Drill Hall pantomime ’Dick Whittington’, the acting duo will switch on the main city centre lights display at around 7.10pm. Earlier, Dick will get help from his cat to switch on the lights at St Marks Shopping Centre at around 6.30pm.
But before the final big switch on, there’ll be lots to keep the crowds entertained at both ends of the High Street. Entertainment kicks off at 5pm, with Lincs FM’s Eddie Shaw playing host at St Marks Shopping Centre. Local band Headstrong will start the show on the stage down at St Marks, followed by performance from Aston Dobson. The Majestic Theatre School will round off the show.
Meanwhile at the War Memorial, the Salvation Army band will perform traditional Christmas carols, before Lincs FM’s Rob Hammond helps to get the city centre party in full flow. The Right Worshipful, the Mayor of Lincoln Councillor Geoff Kirby will lead the traditional procession to the War Memorial from the Guildhall. The countdown will be lead by Colin McFarlane using the vocal skills he adopts as the instantly recognisable voice of ‘The Cube’.
Following the big switch on, the stars will also sign autographs following the High Street switch on in the Waterside Centre.
