Have your say on East West Link road

Residents are being reminded of the opportunity to find out more and have their say on proposals for an East West link road in Lincoln.

The scheme is aimed at improving transport links across the city, reducing traffic congestion, noise and vibration, all whilst allowing the continued improvement of public transport, walking and cycling facilities.

A series of public exhibitions will be held in July.  Details of the plans will be on display and officers from the county council, City of Lincoln, West Lindsey and North Kesteven district council teams behind the project will be on hand to answer any questions.

Les Davies, Senior Project Leader for Lincolnshire County Council, said:

“We are proud to see that Lincoln is a growing city and the population using the city centre is set to increase significantly over the next 20 years.  However, this will lead to even further traffic congestion and it’s crucial that the economic vitality of our city isn’t stifled.

“We are therefore excited about these radical proposals which will help ease congestion by providing a strategic East West link road. It will take traffic away from the rail crossing in the High Street and enable all this space to be used by pedestrians, improving the connectivity between the existing pedestrianised High Street and the lower High Street, as well as St Marks Retail Park.

“Sustainable travel measures will also be addressed by providing increased cycle and walking routes and encouraging the use of buses by providing priority measures.  We encourage everyone to come along to the exhibitions to find out more and let us know their views.”

The exhibitions start on Thursday 8 July at St Mary’s Guildhall, 385 High Street, Lincoln, between 11am and 8pm.  On Friday 9 July, the exhibition moves to the Waterside Shopping Centre from 9am until 5pm, where it will also remain between the same hours on Saturday 10 July.
