With forecasts of snow across the country, it looks like visitors to this year’s Lincoln Christmas Market may be in for a treat, with the first snowy market ever!
Preparations for snowy weather have been underway for the last few weeks, so a blanket of the white stuff won’t prevent thousands of visitors from perusing the 250 stalls and enjoying all the festive entertainment.
The City of Lincoln Council, which organises the Lincoln Christmas Market, has teamed up with its organisational partners, including the county council, the police and the ambulance service, to make sure the event can go ahead as planned.
Extensive gritting will take place in specific areas – including routes to and from Lincoln and the Lincolnshire Showground, as well as roads and footpaths within the market area – and extra grit bins will be placed at key locations.
Specific weather-related safety checks will be carried out on Wednesday morning and then every morning of the market to ensure that the market is ready to welcome visitors.
Visitors heading to the Christmas Market are advised to wear warm clothing and drink hot drinks to protect themselves against the cold temperatures. Wearing plenty of thin layers, rather than one thick one, wearing clothes made of wool, cotton, or fleecy synthetic fibres, and adding a hat, scarf and gloves to your usual warm clothing all help to stay warm.
