Improved Christmas Lights for Skegness

The Christmas lights are expected to be an improvement for Skegness this year, as Skegness Town Council gets set to employ a professional lighting company.

In the past the council has had its own lights put up each year, but this year there will be new lights and displays to give the town the 'wow' factor.

The management committee discussed tenders from five companies at a meeting on Wednesday.  Members were shown pictures of the type of lighting they could expect from each company as well as a price for four packages, including combinations of lighting Lumley Road, High Street and Lumley Square.  Each of the quotes included the supply, installation, maintenance and removal of the lights,

Town clerk Tony Cumberworth explained the lights would be LED, which are more expensive but more efficient than traditional bulbs.  The illuminations will change each year on a three-year rota to stop them becoming tired.

However, due to budget restraints, the council will not be able to dress Lumley Square this year, instead focussing on the Lumley Road and High Street, as these are traditionally always lit.  The council stated that it would look into the possibility of lighting Lumley Square next year.

The council is also looking into the possibilities of requesting East Lindsey District Council to keep the clocktower illuminated from summer until Christmas.  In previous years the clocktower illuminations have been turned off prior to Christmas, which may be due to restrictions being on the listed building.
