Issue with bogus callers continues in East Lindsey

East Lindsey District Council is reminding its residents to be on their guard against bogus callers claiming to be from the Council Tax department.

The Council has received more calls from concerned residents who say they have been asked to give their bank payment card details over the telephone because they were due a Council Tax refund.

The Council’s Business Manager for Revenues and Benefits, Sharon Hammond, said: "Customers who are entitled to a refund on their Council Tax for any reason will be sent their refund automatically, and it will be free of charge. There are however occasions when we need to contact our customers by telephone, and to verify that the call is genuinely from the Council you can ask us to confirm information that only we would be aware of.

For example your Council Tax account number and your last payment information. If there is any doubt, however, as to whether the caller is genuine you should take the name, hang up and call our Customer Services Team who will be able to tell you whether the call was genuine or not."

If anyone gets a call from the Council Tax or Business Rates Office they can verify the details by contacting the Council on 01507 601111.
