Pleasure Island Family Theme Park at Cleethorpes has closed, leaving around 200 people out of work.
Staff arriving to begin work on Wednesday morning were given letters terminating their employment with immediate effect. Visitors, some travelling from South Yorkshire and beyond, expecting a fun day out were turned away. Other local attractions provided some relief to visitors by offering free or cut-priced entrance.
It is unclear at this stage why Pleasure Island has shut.
North East Lincolnshire Council says it is in contact with the company to secure the park's future but are not able to comment on the commercial position of the park as it is a privately owned enterprise.
Concerns have been raised by local traders about how this will affect their businesses as Pleasure Island is a well-known and popular tourist destination bringing many thousands of customers to the local area.
Despite this closure, the Lincolnshire coastline still has many other attractions to offer visitors and this should not put visitors off from coming to the region. For more information on things to do in Lincolnshire, check out our search engine.
