Excited youngsters are counting the days to the arrival of Lincoln’s hottest summer holiday attraction!
Buckets and spades at the ready, families are ready to dig into tonnes of real, golden seaside sand which will be used to transform City Square into a fantastic beach, which they can enjoy until 5th September.
The beach is the star of the show, in a holiday programme which is bursting at the seams with attractions designed to keep youngsters occupied during the long school break.
Punch and Judy, who have already been making their mark with shows on High Bridge and at St Marks, will be appearing at the beach on 16th, 20th, 25th and 31st August and also on 3rd September.
City Square is also the place to find numerous other activities. So far children have thrown themselves into go-karting sessions and snapped-up the chance to meet staff from the ambulance services, Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership and Lincoln City Football Club.
And more fun in the sun is on the way. A fabulous FREE three-day programme of music, dance and circus skills workshops starts on 10th August, culminating in a Kids’ Talent Show, hosted by LincsFM presenter Rob Hammond. It kicks off at 2pm on 12thAugust and anyone can enter.
Don’t miss the chance to support a special balloon launch, taking place between 2pm and 3pm on 12th August in City Square. It has been organised independently by Lincoln BIG events and promotions organiser Rachel Hanson.
Rachel wants to raise as much money as possible for the Meningitis Research Foundation in memory of her nephew, two-year-old Leo Good, who lost his life after contracting meningococcal septicaemia earlier this year.
Lincoln BIG, which has masterminded the summer spectacular, said the huge variety of events on offer appear to be bringing more families into the city centre.
Events and Promotions Manager, Michael Armstrong said: "We’ve pulled out all the stops this year to create a real holiday atmosphere in the heart of the city and to offer lots of entertainment for people without them having to travel long distances.
We’re really excited about the beach and feel that it really is something that will attract whole families. While the children get stuck in making sandcastles, mums and dads can relax over an ice cream and still manage to keep an eye on them."
