Schools across Lincolnshire have once again achieved excellent results in A-level and equivalent examinations. Provisional figures from schools released today show that overall performance across all grades continues to be above the national average for maintained schools.
With initial results from the sixth forms in all thirty-seven schools now in, provisional indications are that Lincolnshire has scored an overall A-E grade pass rate of 98.1% for A-level qualifications, which is above the national average. Half of the schools with sixth forms have further improved their pass rates since 2009.
This is the first year that students have been able to achieve an A* grade. Nationally only 8.1% of A-level entries have achieved this exemplary level.
So far, a total of ten schools in Lincolnshire have matched or exceeded this proportion. These include: Kesteven and Grantham Girls’ School; Gainsborough Queen Elizabeth’s High School; Bourne Grammar School; Alford Queen Elizabeth’s High School; Louth King Edward VI Grammar School; Horncastle Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School; Welton William Farr (CE) Comprehensive School; and Branston Community College.
At Caistor Grammar School an amazing 17.7% of entries achieved the A* grade. A quarter of Lincolnshire schools have more than 30% of entries at grade A* or A. This is two more than last year and includes the Gleed Girls’ Technology College in Spalding where 56.1% of entries achieved the equivalent of an A or A* grade.
Councillor Mrs Patricia Bradwell, Executive Councillor for Children’s Services, said:
"Yet again the students and schools of Lincolnshire continue to astound us with their superb results. I would also like to thank all of our staff in schools who have supported these young people throughout their studies. Special merit goes all those students who have achieved the exacting new A* grade."
Peter Duxbury, Director of Children’s Services, said:
"All of our young people deserve great credit for producing these results which once again show how well we are performing. Congratulations once again to all those schools that have done so well due to the hard work, dedication and commitment of students and staff, together with support from parents and carers ."
