Plans are well in hand for a day of family focused entertainment and shopping amid the Georgian/Victorian backdrop of this historic market town. The public is invited to get into the spirit of the event and dress up in period costume and enjoy an extravaganza of Victorian festivities from 10am to 4pm.
Hosted by the Louth Town Partnership, the Fayre will include activities that the people of Louth and its farming hinterland enjoyed before the advent of the motor car and aeroplane.
"We thought it a good idea to do something different to get the community together in a way that will help locals and visitors alike really appreciate what Louth has to offer," says Event Organiser, Patrick Neville. "Here we have a proud rural heritage with friendly people, wonderful shops, colourful street markets and outstanding local food. Add these assets to Louth’s appealing mix of Georgian and Victorian buildings, our magnificent church and you have one of England’s most attractive market towns."
Some 50 stallholders from around the County will be in town with their offerings of arts and crafts, bric-a-brac and local food products for which Louth is justifiably proud. There will be music and dancing, a silver band, Morris Men, a fair organ, cooking demonstrations, choral groups, street entertainers including fire-eaters and buskers and lots more.
Competitions will include Best Victorian Costume and Best Stall. For the children, the Fayre will feature Punch & Judy, face-painting and activities their Victorian great-great-grandparents knew well. For collectors of Victorian objects d’art, an expert will be on hand to value treasured antiques and bric-a-brac.
