Louth's new £12m Leisure Centre Open For Business

East Lindsey’s state-of-the-art £12m Meridian Leisure Centre on Wood Lane in Louth has opened its doors to the community for the very first time. The Leisure Centre will give local people the opportunity to improve their health and wellbeing using some of the very best sports and leisure facilities available in the East Midlands.

East Lindsey District CouncilThe opening weekend saw a variety of activities taking place throughout the Centre involving local clubs and local people. Sporting superstars, Bernice Wilson, one of the fastest runners in the World and England World Cup Winning Cricketer, Katherine Brunt, were both on hand to host athletics and cricket sessions in the Sports Hall and celebrate the occasion.

Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Councillor Adam Grist, welcomed the first people through the door at 8am: “Today will be remembered by the people of East Lindsey for many years to come. This is a very exciting time and I am delighted to see so many smiling faces as local people visit the Meridian Leisure Centre for the first time.”

Councillor Grist, continued: “We knew there was a need to help our community to improve its health. This was a very ambitious project and the biggest project ever Meridian Leisure Centre, Louthundertaken by the District Council. We’ve overcome all the challenges a big project can involve and given the people of Louth and the surrounding area a leisure centre they so desperately needed and one they can be very proud of for many years to come.”

Memberships are on sale for the Meridian Leisure Centre priced at £32.50 per month but it can also be used on a pay as you go basis.

Joining as a member entitles you to use the state-of-the-art 80 piece Fitness Suite; 25m 8 lane Swimming Pool with floating floor; Sauna and Steam Room; plus free access to the various classes, including spinning, aerobics and aquacise.

The Leisure Centre has been built as part of the District Council’s Community Leisure Project that has also seen a new sports pavilion and cricket ground on London Road in Louth, which opened in 2008; a new sports pavilion on Wainfleet Road in Skegness, due to open in 2010; an outdoor Skatepark in Mablethorpe and refurbished fitness suites in Skegness, Horncastle and Mablethorpe.
