Michelin Starred Chef to Star at Food Festival Finale

Jason Atherton, the British culinary master, has agreed to be official patron of this summer's Food Festival which is sponsored by Bakkavor.

Jason made his name at Maze, where they serve French cuisine with Asian influences, which he launched together with Gordon Ramsay in 2005. Within the first year it was awarded a Michelin Star and since then has swept the boards to win an unprecedented number of other awards. Jason regularly appears on TV including BBC 1's 'Saturday Kitchen' and BBC 2's 'The Great British Menu' and he is the author of 'Gourmet Food for a Fiver' and 'Maze: The Cookbook', both of which are published by Quadrille.

"It is really important for me to always remember my childhood and where I grew up. This being Lincolnshire it holds fond memories for me! The walks in the fens, picking strawberries and the smell of the fields during harvest time. Even the smell of Batemans Brewery when I used to go fishing outside of the brew house in Wainfleet. I still have a strong connection to this area and I am very proud to support this food festival and Lincolnshire as a whole and put it back on the map where it belongs."

Jason trained at Boston College and had a brief spell in army catering before learning his culinary craft from some of the world's top chefs. Notably, he was the first British chef to complete a stage at Spain's El Bulli restaurant. He has won over seven awards in his career including 'London's Outstanding Chef' in 2008. Jason is currently working on his first sole venture in London, which launches in December 2010 in Mayfair, London.

Jason will be attending the South Holland Summer Food Fair on Saturday 14th August 2010. The finale takes place at the Castle Sports Complex, Spalding, on the weekend of 14th and 15th August from 10am to 4pm. Jason will be performing two demonstrations and signing copies of his latest book, 'Gourmet Food for a Fiver'.

He will be joined by popular chef Rachel Green who is well-known to TV and radio audiences and she will take to the stage both days in the Cookery Demonstration Theatre.

Known as ITV Yorkshire's 'Flying Cook', Rachel also appears on 'BBC Breakfast', 'Market Kitchen' and has a Radio Lincolnshire slot, 'Rachel Green's Food for Thought'.

Rachel comes from a Lincolnshire family who have farmed for 14 generations.

She says: "I grew up helping to collect eggs, lamb the ewes and vine the peas. It means I have a huge respect for producers."

Councillor Nick Worth, Council Portfolio Holder for Leisure Services, said: "We are delighted to welcome Jason and Rachel to the Food Festival finale and we know their participation will inspire audiences to create their own dishes and perhaps encourage some to pursue careers as chefs.

The finale is intended to be a family event and we have decided to have free admission so everyone can come along to enjoy music, entertainment and discover speciality foods from around the world as well as those made closer to home.

As we celebrate South Holland's food heritage it is quite fitting that the finale will include a master class in making hand-raised pork by butcher Nick Richer, from Spalding-based George Adams.”
