The newest member of Lincoln Castle’s birds of prey display team will be introduced to the public this weekend – when her new name is finally revealed.
The currently-unnamed Lanner Falcon will be part of a static display at the Longbow Tournament taking place in the castle grounds on Sunday 26 September. Not only will the 16-week-old bird be greeting the crowds with resident falconer Derek Tindall and his feathered-friends for the first time, but her new name will also be announced at the event.
Derek said:
"Over the past few weeks, we’ve been asking people to suggest a name for our new recruit, and we’ve had a lot of good ideas. It’s claimed that Lanner Falcons once lived in Sherwood Forest. In light of this, we’ve chosen a name that pays tribute to the forest’s most famous resident. But you’ll have to wait until Sunday to find out exactly what it is."
The event runs from 10am to 5pm, with admission to the castle grounds costing £5 for adults and £3.30 for students and concessions. A family ticket for two adults and up to three children is available for £13.30, and entry is free for children under five.
