A trip to the Golden Sands of Mablethorpe will become stress-free this summer thanks to the arrival of a new bus and rail link.
With the credit-crunch biting, many people are forsaking foreign destinations this year to holiday at home. Now, thanks to Lincolnshire County Council, it couldn’t be easier to enjoy one of the county’s top coastal resorts, with the launch of a new bus and rail link to Mablethorpe. Working with partners East Midlands Trains and Stagecoach, the county council has established the new connection by joining up rail services on the Nottingham to Skegness Poacher Line with the InterConnect 9 bus service from Skegness to Mablethorpe.
Anita Ruffle, Strategy and Development Manager for Public Transport, said:
“Thousands of people visit Mablethorpe each summer to enjoy the British tradition of a day beside the seaside. By joining-up the journey we are making life easier for tourists, making the Lincolnshire coast a more attractive option for holidaymakers. This will hopefully help boost business for the coastal tourism industry, for whom the summer months are so important.
“The new link will also be complemented by other improvements on these rail and bus routes, such as the additional limited-stop trains to Skegness during the summer holidays, and the extension of the InterConnect 9 bus service to Louth. These partnership initiatives will hopefully encourage more people to take the public transport option, which will be better for the environment.”
The through connections will be shown on the new East Midlands Trains timetables, which will take effect on Monday 18 May.
