New date set for Horncastle community to celebrate Bain Valley Park opening

A new date has been set for the community celebration to officially open Bain Valley Park in Horncastle – Saturday, July 3, 2010 – and families are being reminded to bring a picnic and their favourite Teddy Bear!

As well as free activities for the whole family to enjoy, the Mayor of Horncastle, Councillor Sandra Campbell-Wardman, will choose her favourite Teddy Bear and the lucky owner will have the choice of a family ticket to see Theo the Mouse's Musical Madhouse on either Monday, August 16 at 2pm or Sunday, August 29 at 2pm at the Embassy Theatre in Skegness.

Mayor of Horncastle and East Lindsey District Councillor, Councillor Sandra Campbell-Wardman, said: "I am delighted we have been able to get another date in the diary for this event. It will be a great opportunity for the people of Horncastle to come together and have fun. Bain Valley Park is another important community space that we can all enjoy and I look forward to meeting many local people at the celebration."

The day has been organised by East Lindsey District Council and is supported by Horncastle Town Council.

The programme of activities will be as follows:

10am-11am – Multi Skills Activities, Traditional Playground Games and Circus Skills
11am-12noon – Multi Skills Activities, Circus Skills and Natural Play
12noon – 1pm – Natural Play and Traditional family games
1pm picnic and judging

The £850,000 Bain Valley Park project was developed as part of East Lindsey District Council’s commitment to improving leisure provision for the community. It has seen the transformation of a former landfill site into a thriving community space that boasts landscaped gardens, grassed areas for picnics, benches and disabled car parking.

The project funded by the East Midlands Development Agency from a pot of money from the Brownfield Land Action Plan (BLAP) Programme which transforms waste land into attractive space for communities.

The original opening was planned for May 8 but had to be postponed due to rain.
