Police Authority Gives Public An On-Line Challenge To Help Shape Its Budget

Lincolnshire Police Authority is giving members of the public a chance to help shape a budget of more than £120 million.

Lincolnshire PoliceThe Authority has launched a new website featuring an on-line budget simulator that allows people to suggest which areas of policing could provide savings, and which areas should be regarded as priorities in 2010/11.

“Every year we consult as widely as possible in a variety of ways , from public meetings to paper surveys .The simulator provides a new form of  consultation which we hope  will prove popular “, said Authority Chairman Barry Young.

“It will show people how policing and council tax would be affected by raising or lowering spending in certain areas of policing. You can control the budget by following instructions on the computer screen and using your own judgement to decide what to spend and where to spend it. It’s more than just a computer game. The results will inform the Authority’s budget setting decisions in February”.

To use the simulator, log on to the Authority’s website - found in the article links to the right.

The Authority is taking the simulator ‘out on the road’ to allow people without internet access to have their say. Sessions are taking place across the county during January and February. Please contact the Authority on 01522 558521 for a list of locations and dates. The first session will be held at the Tesco store in Gainsborough between 10.30 am and 3.30 pm on Thursday January 21.

There is a section on the simulator for comments, which the Authority would also value. Everyone taking part will be entered into a free prize draw to win an hour’s expert instruction on the skid pan at Police Headquarters (subject to terms and conditions)
