The organisers of SO Festival 2010 are appealing for the return of two promotional banners which were stolen from the railings by the bridge on the main road through Horncastle in the early hours of Monday 7th June.
A gentleman, between 5’6” and 6’0”, aged between 50 and 70, with thinning silver or white hair, wearing grey trousers and a light brown short sleeved shirt has been captured on CCTV removing the banners from railings before carefully folding them and leaving the scene via Church Street towards the church. The incident took place at 6.48am.
The banners, which measure three metres by one metre and are emblazoned with the SO Festival 2010 logo, are not particularly valuable but festival planners at East Lindsey District Council do want them returning.
SO Festival 2010 offers four days of exhilarating entertainment between 22nd and 25th July, during which time Skegness will be transformed into an international arts venue, featuring a colourful carnival of dance, visual art, street theatre, music, world class performances and more.
"This is a highly unusual situation and we’ve never encountered it before," says Semantha Neal of East Lindsey District Council. "The banners look fantastic and feature the new branding for SO Festival 2010. They’re certainly appealing but we didn’t think they would be something someone would want to steal. We’re not interested in pressing charges but we would like the banners back. We’re appealing for the gentleman to put the banners back and if he wants one after the event because of his love for the SO Festival brand then we’ll consider it."
East Lindsey District Council erected the banners in Horncastle last week as it hopes that many people from the town will travel to Skegness to enjoy the festival and that tourists, unable to find accommodation in Skegness, may look to stay in the town.
Organised by East Lindsey District Council, with £250,000 support from Arts Council England, this year’s festival has attracted a diverse range of internationally acclaimed performers including French companies, Transe Express and Plasticiens Volants, street art installation Traffic Art and several theatre companies who will perform free of charge during the four days. Jools Holland and West End star Lee Mead are also performing in Skegness during SO Festival 2010.
