The programme for South Holland District Council's 10th annual, award-winning Pumpkin Festival has been published.
The events are sponsored by David Bowman Pumpkin Ltd, Nationwide Produce plc, Boston College, the Red Lion Quarter and partnered by the Rotary Club of Spalding Welland Centenary and Spalding Lions.
Councillor Nick Worth, the Council's Portfolio Holder for Leisure Services said:
"Over the last ten years this festival has become bigger and better than ever. It is a great opportunity as the nights are drawing in for people to get together and have a good time."
The Festival starts on Saturday 2nd October with the 'Pumpkin Throwing Competition' which takes place at the Castle Playing Field in Spalding between 10am and 2.30pm. This is the first of its type in Lincolnshire and involves young people from local schools inventing and creating pumpkin throwing machines that will be competing with each other in a number of different challenges.
The programme of events runs from Sunday 3rd October throughout the following week ending with the grand finale of the festival, which takes place in Spalding town centre on Friday 8th October.
The action starts at 10am and finishes at 9pm. During the day there will be children's entertainment, demonstrations, live music and fun for people of all ages including face painting, a fancy dress competition and an open air market selling all sorts of pumpkin related treats. The pumpkin parade will take place in the evening at 6.30pm and will be led by the Flower Queen in her brand new pumpkin coach serenaded by music along the way. The parade will be followed at 7.30pm by a spectacular fireworks display with the final act of the day being the 'Wild Boys' ultimate 80's cover band in the town centre.
