As the World Cup heads towards an exciting conclusion, Lincolnshire is preparing for its own unique sporting event for young people with the first ever StreetGames Festival.
StreetGames Festivals are sports tournaments designed to give young people from community projects the chance to compete against each other, meet new people and learn new sports skills.
The Lincolnshire StreetGames Festival will take place on the Tuesday, 13 July, at the University of Lincoln from 5-9pm. The aim is to bring together over 200 young people from communities around Lincolnshire to take part in a variety of sports including wheelchair basketball, street dance, street cricket, football and street athletics.
Councillor Mrs Patricia Bradwell, Executive Councillor for Children’s Services, said: “Sport is an important part of our everyday lives and this event gives young people the opportunity to exercise, compete, meet others and develop their talent and skills. The StreetGames Festival will bring sport to the doorstep of our young people and I look forward to seeing many communities taking part.”
The project is being led by Lincolnshire Children’s Services in partnership with the Lincolnshire Sports Partnership and Street Games.
