Switch on success in Mablethorpe as thousands turn out

7,000 local people and visitors flocked onto the streets of Mablethorpe on Saturday, July 30, 2011, for the resort’s annual illuminations switch on event, making it one of the most successful ever.

With a day of events and activities throughout the resort and Britain’s Got Talent Duo, Twist and Pulse on hand to flick the switch to turn on the lights, it was an opportune time to remember that Mablethorpe is still one of the most popular seaside resorts on the East Coast.

Following an amazing firework display, Twist and Pulse, had to be chaperoned to a waiting car to be whisked away after 10 minute of autograph signing behind the stage next to the former Dunes Theatre.

Town Manager, Karen Froggatt, said the event has gone from strength to strength in recent years: "Mablethorpe previously had an evening celebration but now the illuminations switch-on event covers the whole day, which means people are spending longer in the resort and supporting local businesses.

"Twist and Pulse were a real hit but thanks must also go to all those local organisations and businesses involved in making the 2011 illumination switch on day a real success and one that local people should be proud to have been a part of."
