The popularity of the West Common as the perfect spot for tennis has meant a change of location for free tennis lessons run by the City of Lincoln Council.
The tennis courts on the West Common have been available for free since April to encourage greater use and the take up has been excellent meaning the courts are regularly full of budding Andy Murrays.
In addition to free access, free tennis lessons, with a LTA (Lawn Tennis Association) qualified instructor, were originally planned to take place on the West Common throughout the summer. But organisers have changed the venue to Boultham Park, to allow people to continue using the courts on the common on a casual basis. The lessons take place Monday to Friday from 1pm to 5pm through to Friday 3rd September.
Recreation Services Team Leader, Antony Angus, said: "We were delighted to find that the tennis courts on the West Common were being so well used by children and adults, and have agreed to move the lessons to Boultham Park to allow this to continue. It seemed a shame to stop one group of people from playing so that another group could have a lesson, and a simpler solution is to move the venue for the lessons."
The free tennis lessons are available for all ages and abilities. Keith Taylor, Senior Sport Development Officer at the City of Lincoln Council, said: "Whilst the West Common is available to turn up and play, the free lessons are there for anyone who needs to Sharpen up their serve or improve their backhand. There also open to anyone who wishes to just give it a go!"
