Staff at The Collection are celebrating after the museum won the prestigious Sandford Award. The award is given to historic sites and museums who provide an excellent learning experience.
The Sandford Award was given to The Collection for quality and excellence in its Investigate Learning Programme. The awards are made annually by the Heritage Education Trust, the only organisation able to provide independent quality assurance for educational services provided by heritage sites.
Sally Bleasdale, Senior Community Engagement Officer at The Collection said:
"We are absolutely delighted with this prestigious award. It is recognition of the passion, dedication and hard work of the ‘Investigate’ team who organise school visits to The Collection. The value that museum visits make to delivering the school curriculum is recognised by teachers, and this is reflected by the number of repeat-visits made by schools throughout the year.”
The museum was chosen by a panel of independent judges, drawn from OFSTED inspectors, former head teachers and educational consultants.
An extract from the judges comments read: A visit to The Collection in Lincoln offers school groups an insight into their local heritage and puts the information into a general historical context. The interactive learning sessions use genuine and replica artefacts and are well planned and enjoyable. They provide teachers with inspiration and support for their classroom lessons
The Collection will receive its award at a ceremony later this year.
